The King(R-NY) and his Court

Kudos for Rep. Peter King (R-NY) for not caving in to those who play the “political correctness” and “islamophobia” card. In my opinion he is deserving of the J.F.K. Profiles in Courage Award and a Nobel Peace Prize. Thank God we have a few true patriots in congress, Allen West among them, who are not afraid of identifying who the real enemy is.

The purpose of these hearings to establish a motive for homegrown terrorism fueled by Muslim extremism. al-Qaeda is a very real and serious international threat. We know al-Qaeda recruits and trains Muslims here in the U.S. Our leaders in Washington, D.C. have a responsibility to fulfill their congressional duty by probing one of the most serious threats to our national security. These hearings are necessary. They are extremely important. The American public overwhelmingly supports them.

We have our usual suspects (ACLU, CAIR, Keith Ellison D-MN) condemning the hearings and claiming they “unfairly stigmatize and alienate Muslim Americans.”  They point to other extremest incidences such as the shooting of Gabrielle Giffords and the Oklahoma City Bombing. As King points out, “There is no equivalency of threat between al-Qaeda and neo-Nazis, environmentalist extremists or other isolated madmen.” Well…..he’s absolutely right. No one is denying that there are a few isolated crazies out there. Coincidently, where is Timothy McVeigh right now? Right, he’s D-E-A-D. Now where is Kalid Sheik Mohammed? He’s been eating 3 squares a day, watching cable TV, praying to Mecca, and soaking up the sun in Cuba for the past 10 years.

According to our Justice Department, more than 80% of all convictions tied to international terrorist groups and homegrown terrorism since 9/11 involve defendants driven by a radical Islamist agenda. Though Muslims represent less than 1% of the American population, they constitute defendants in 186 of the 228 cases the Justice Department lists, and that is  here on our soil. The statistics are much higher in Europe.

Are we saying by holding these hearings that all Muslims have extremist views and hold a perverted perspective of Islam? The answer is no. But the truth is we really don’t know do we? In fact, I’m wondering if the term “radical” is in and of itself, a politically correct way of covering up the true face of Islam. Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan: “There is no moderate or immoderate Islam. Islam is Islam, and that’s it”.

The father of a radicalized muslim convert who attacked an army recruiting station in Little Rock, Arkansas testified at the hearing that “Americans are ignoring the issue.” He described how his son, Carlos, was radicalized when he went off to college in Nashville, Tenn. He described how his son’s personality changed and how, when he returned home for the holidays in 2005, he told his family he converted to Islam. Bledsoe also said he noticed something was wrong when his son took a picture of Martin Luther King Jr. down.  Soon after, Carlos changed his name and traveled to Yemen.

Last week in Germany, two American serviceman were murdered. Thirteen people were slaughtered, 30 wounded at Ft. Hood two years ago by Major Hassan. His superiors, bowing to political correctness and their appeasement to sensitivity, were responsible. There were foiled plots in Times Square, North Carolina, Texas, New Jersey, and a Christmas day flight to Detroit, and unfortunately, I’m sure we all agree that we haven’t heard the last of them.

It’s time for the American people to wake up. It’s time for Congress, our Justice Department, AND our President to do their job. First and foremost, protect the citizens of the United States. Islam, radical Islam, Islamofascism, whatever you want to call it, is a true threat. They are a real enemy, and they must be stopped.
